Case Study:Interrogation
Newport Beach Corporate Fraud
A prominent Newport Beach attorney representing a large beer manufacturer contacted us. We met with the attorney and the company executives at their corporate headquarters.
The company had a problem: large amounts of inventory were simply missing. They had a certain amount of product on hand, but their internal accounting told them they should have more money.
Our private investigators provided employee surveillance, and later, in-depth interviews and interrogations of employees.
We quickly discovered a number of employees were smuggling product out of the factory. The results from this investigation were handed to the District Attorney. As a result of our investigation, 17 people were arrested, prosecuted and served jail time.

We referred the client to one of our preferred attorneys who assisted in obtaining a divorce decree.

Case Study: Bug Sweeps
Los Angeles Bug Sweep
The office administrator at a Los Angeles law firm visited our Los Angeles office. The problem: they knew they had an internal leak. When they went to court they were getting hit over the head – as opposing counsel had detailed information which they should not have had.
Results:
After a sweep of their offices, our private investigators found 2 listening devices: one in the boardroom, and a second one in one of the partners’ offices.

Case Study: Locate People
Los Angeles Lost Loves
A major metropolitan newspaper in Los Angeles hired us after reading an LA Times newspaper article which featured our work.
We met at our Los Angeles office. For an upcoming Valentine’s Day article, the editor gave us a list of people to find – all former lovers who had become “lost”.
Results:
Our private investigators located and reunited 5 couples (all of whom were not currently married).
Life is short, and these people just wanted the answer to the question, “what if?” The private investigators at Martin Investigative Services have helped find many such people over the years. Contact us for a free, confidential consultation.
Case Study: Corporate Investigation
Orange County Chairman Affair
A Human Resources Director called us at the direction of the Chairman of the Board and informed us that the President was known to be having an affair with a subordinate. Notwithstanding the fact that the executive was married, company policy expressly prohibited such office relationships. The clients also determined that there was a significant risk of legal action by the female against the company and the executive if and when the relationship eventually became public.
Although the affair was routinely known and discussed within the company, the Chairman had no hard evidence to support termination of the employees for violating company policy.
Results:
We were engaged to operate a ten-day surveillance, which soon caught both subjects in compromising positions and places on videotape.
After presenting our findings to the corporate board, we discussed strategic options to resolve the situation. Our goal? To minimize the risk of a lawsuit from either party. The board agreed that we should manage the termination process for both employees in a discreet and confidential manner using the video evidence as justification. This enabled the client’s Human Resources department to maintain a level of separation from the process to minimize legal risk while effectively bringing the situation to a close.
Case Study: Background Checks
Mission Viejo Asset Check
A Newport Beach attorney heard us on a radio program. The law firm had a client who had won a judgment but the party who was supposed to pay the judgment claimed they did not have the funds to pay it.
The law office hired us to perform an asset search, and see if we could discover hidden funds.
Results:
Using a confidential source and our internal computer system, our private investigators found two bank accounts with a total of $115,000 in them.
These funds were subsequently seized with a writ of attachment. Our private investigators regularly discover hidden assets in a number of cases.

His sister had been kidnapped, and the client had received a ransom note.

Case Study: Background Checks
San Diego Personal Background Check
An executive business woman in San Diego found us through the Internet. She was dating a man who claimed he was a “Navy Seal” who had “served in Iraq and Afghanistan.”
The problem was she felt something wasn’t right.
Results:
The private investigators at Martin Investigative Services performed a background check and extensive surveillance.
It was determined that the subject was never in the military but, in fact, an unemployed security guard with an expired guard card license. The client ended the relationship immediately.

Case Study: Corporate Theft
Los Angeles Corporate Theft
A large metal manufacturing firm in Los Angeles was referred to us by their corporate attorney. We met with the company at their corporate office.
The problem was that they had $500,000 of materials that had gone missing in Mexico. They wanted us to discover the source of the theft and recover the materials.
Results:
After performing surveillance in Mexico City and Tijuana, our private investigators located the stolen items. We also discovered the theft was perpetrated by the client’s employees in both Tijuana and San Diego. As a direct result of the investigation, 3 people were arrested and prosecuted by the Mexican Federal Police.
Martin Investigative Services is one of the only US-based firms to perform private investigation in Mexico. (The alternative of hiring a private investigator based in Mexico is a risky proposition.)

Case Study: Private Investigation
San Diego Overturned Conviction
The president of a major software company in San Diego was referred to us by another private investigator.
The client had been accused of rape by his stepdaughter and had been convicted in a court of law.
The client came to us and emphatically refused the charge. In a case like this, we are as skeptical as anyone else but he just kept insisting, “I didn’t do it.”
Results:
Our private investigators reviewed trial transcripts in detail after which we interviewed and interrogated trial witnesses.
We then found and interviewed new witnesses until we found a smoking gun which not only cleared our client of all wrongdoing but proved that the mother and stepdaughter conspired to accuse our client of rape in an effort to obtain all the assets in the pending divorce case.
The guilty verdict was overturned, the accusations were proven false and our client was set free.

Mission Viejo Corporate Espionage
A local Mission Viejo attorney representing a large pharmaceutical manufacturer called us. We then met with the attorney at his office.

Results:
Our private investigators provided in-depth interviews and interrogations of employees. We also provided employee surveillance.
Our private investigators traveled to Tokyo to conduct surveillance in cooperation with a local private investigator. We provided evidence that employees in Japan were working with double agents in the company’s Mission Viejo office to steal trade secrets.
Corporate espionage can be complicated and costly. We help level the playing field.
