BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR ALL VISITORS

Given the state of violence in the country, I don’t think it’s a bad idea for corporations to start instituting background checks for anyone who visits their facility.

This is a practice happening right now, for all visitors at military bases like Fort Lee, Virgnia.

At Fort Lee, background checks are usually a one-time affair for those who are coming onto the base regularly. However, it will depend on the frequency of the visits, and there could be additional background checks periodically. If the check were to pull up an active warrant or a serious felony, the visitor would not be able to access the base (but would have the option to appeal the decision later).

The Army concedes that the background checks will likely be cause some traffic in the beginning of the implementation. However, since the background check is not a daily requirement, this should actually clear up relatively quickly. They believe that it could take up to ten minutes for visitors to get through the new system. However, if visitors pre-apply online, it can help to speed things up.

This is really just the beginning – background checks for all visitors will be begin happening at Army installations across the country, and they will likely become common practice for all military bases.

Who is visiting your company?

Obviously only companies of a certain size would be able to perform background checks on this scale – to everyone who comes into their place of business.

Many companies currently do a cursory background check, which really doesn’t do much to illuminate the individual’s history. A complete check is not always a simple task for most companies to do. This is why the outsourcing their background screenings to private investigators and private security firms is becoming an increasingly common practice.

Even if you have a smaller company, and want to run checks on perspective employees, current employees, or select visitors, you get what you pay for when it comes to background checks.
