Private investigators do more than collect incriminating evidence of bad deeds. Sometimes they save lives.
In my latest book, Seeing Life Through Private Eyes, we detail several cases where our unique skills, and those of my investigators on staff in our five offices, helped solve some intense problems for my clients. One such case involved a man accused of molesting his teenage stepdaughter. His wife, the leader of the local Chamber of Commerce, accused him of abusing her daughter for many years. Even though he swore his innocence, the stepdaughter’s testimony was enough to have him convicted. He was sentenced to 20+ years in prison.
Investigation and Discovery
Ironically, this was my very first case ever. There were no other investigators on staff, my office was a small executive suite and, of course, I had plenty of time on my hands. After thoroughly reading the transcripts from the original trial, we were one hundred percent convinced he was guilty. Despite all the evidence and testimonies against him, he maintained his innocence.
We began digging. I spoke to family members and others close to the mother and stepdaughter. When found the young girl’s diary. I uncovered evidence that proved my client’s innocence and I delivered my findings to the District Attorney’s office. What happened after that falls into the category of “you just can’t make stuff like this up.”
Read about me calling my very first press conference and why I thought that extreme measure was necessary. The turnout was less than impressive. Only one reporter from a Los Angeles radio station showed up but that was all we needed. The next day the story was in all the local newspapers, radio and television outlets. Amazingly, this one and only first case set me on the fast track in the private investigative industry.
