During the first seven month of 2019, our office has received a 50% increase in calls, emails and texts about doing private investigations in Mexico.
During their previous careers as federal agents, many of our investigators actually worked inside Mexico – either covertly or overtly.
Our firm is the only private investigative agency I know of that is based in the United States, but still offers “boots on the ground” private investigation services in the country of Mexico.
During their previous careers as federal agents, many of our investigators actually worked inside Mexico – either covertly or overtly. This has fostered a solid working relationship with both the federal and local police in Mexico.
It boils down to experience: knowing who to contact and (more importantly) who we can trust.
Building on those law enforcement relationships, we set out to develop a cadre of former officers in Mexico who are in practice as private investigators. After months of interviews and then assigned cases in the late 1990’s, we felt more than comfortable with the formidable group of knowledgeable and trustworthy investigators we’d assembled inside Mexico.
The type of cases we are called on range from simply locating a subject or verifying an address to assisting in the kidnapping of Americans and/or dealing with ransom demands. There are the tourists who are missing during a spring break getaway or those who never return to their cruise ship. There are those who cross the border to get cheap medical care or prescriptions and simply disappear. A night on the town can turn into a rape case for an unsuspecting woman whose drink has been spiked.
There are three big mistakes that people make when a relative or friend are involved in any of the above scenarios:
- Waiting too long to hire a private investigator. Whatever the case issues, never wait pass 72 hours to notify personnel in the U.S. Embassy and retain a private investigator.
- Hiring an investigator in Mexico. You will never, ever find one on your own that won’t take your money and run.
- Hiring the wrong USA-based PI. Having a post office box in Mexico or a list of services on a website does not qualify one to conduct the serious business of investigations in Mexico.
You might be shocked to learn that we only take 1 out of 10 cases presented to us within the country of Mexico. There are many reasons as to why, but it often boils down to the case being too old, there being nothing that we realistically can do for the family or the client simply not having the means to pay our fees.
We pride ourselves on being a very transparent agency about who we are and what we charge.
In Mexico with the vast majority of our cases, we charge a minimum $25,000 retainer. We bill at $300/hour plus expenses.
Keep in mind that in Mexico, “expenses” also entails the monetary payments to obtain information. That’s how the system works in Mexico.
