Over the past 3+ decades, we have received numerous calls from corporations, attorneys, insurance companies and the public that want private investigative services in the Hawaiian Islands. Some of these requests have expressed frustration in that some of the local private investigators that were non-responsive or unqualified.

Let me be clear: Martin Investigative Services is not licensed in Hawaii to perform investigative services. When we have received an investigative request in the past, we generally referred one or two local Hawaiian investigators to the potential business of client.  Many of these requests for services in Hawaii have come from our own client base here in California, so it was in our best interest to make sure they were referred to a competent investigator and/or agency.

I remember back in 1972, when I was a special agent of the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs (now the Drug Enforcement Administration), I landed in Oahu to conduct a two-week seminar for the Hawaiian police.  I started developing friends and associates. I have returned to the Islands as a visitor over 40 times as both a federal agent and private investigator since that initial visit. Unfortunately, because of deaths and retirements of many of those investigators and private investigative contacts, my pool of referrals really started to become depleted in 2019.

How did I solve this problem?  I set about to find the “best of the best” throughout the Hawaiian Islands, as this was imperative to service our existing client base.

It wasn’t an easy task.

If you search Google for hawaii private investigator, you’ll see why people have problems finding a good PI. Using some sample results, I saw thirteen investigative agencies appeared on the first page of Google. The first agency has two reviews with a combined score of 1.5. The second agency had one review with a total score of 5.0. Down further on the list, a third agency had 27 reviews with a combined score of 3.3. The remaining ten agencies had no reviews and amateurish websites. Their “About” pages were non-existent. There were no agencies listing even a small “ad” to distinguish themselves.

We then sent out an email to many of our colleagues here on the mainland requesting any Hawaiian PI referrals. We did the same with a few well-known attorney friends in Hawaii. It became readily apparent that, although we were referred some very competent investigators, they do not advertise on the internet. This makes it very difficult for the public to get an investigator who is unsurpassed within the current investigative establishment throughout the Islands.

Problem solved. We’re prepared with the 4 “best of the best” investigators on the Hawaiian Islands: two on Oahu, one on the Big Island and one on Maui. The two on Oahu are perfectly situated to cover assignments, as one is in Honolulu while the other is on the North Shore.
