Interview & Interrogation FAQ

What is an interrogation?

An interrogation is simply an interview to get more information, evidence, confessions – anything that helps identify the truth behind the situation.

What isn’t an interrogation?

Current events, movies, and television shows have popularized the idea that interrogation is the subgroup of so-called enhanced interrogation techniques involving psychoactive drugs, waterboarding, torture, and psychological abuse. This isn’t the case.

Employee Interrogation and Interview

Have problems with employees but don’t know how to discover proof of wrongdoing?

Employee theft? Fraud? Embezzlement?

Corporations regularly use private investigators skilled in the arts of interview and interrogation to uncover the truth behind sensitive employee situations.

Effective interrogations are simply interviews conducted to get more information, evidence, and confessions. You don’t need an undercover employee – you’d be surprised at the information that can be obtained if you ask in the right way.

Once one rat is found, all the rats jump ship.

Interrogation uncovering product theft

A soda manufacturer in California suspected a growing problem with employee theft and called upon Martin Investigative Services to investigate.

What interrogation is

An interrogation is simply an interview to get more information, evidence, confessions – anything that helps identify the truth behind the situation.

In the case of confessions, we make a declaration under the penalty of perjury, and under the laws of the State, we are conducting the investigation. This court-ready document can be used for legal action if required.

What interrogation isn’t

Current events in recent years and movies and television shows have popularized the idea that interrogation is the subgroup of so-called enhanced interrogation techniques involving psychoactive drugs, waterboarding, torture, and psychological abuse.

Although it should be evident that our interrogations don’t include these, we are often asked about this and thought it best to clear this up from the beginning.

Interrogation skill, dedication & experience

Interrogation and interview are taught in many different branches of law enforcement, but it takes talent, dedication, and experience to become skilled at it.

During Thomas G. Martin’s tenure as a Federal supervisory agent, he taught interrogation classes at the Departments of Justice and Treasury in over 60 foreign countries and many law enforcement academies throughout the United States.

Undercover operations are expensive and ineffective.

Putting an undercover employee in place is not practical for your money or our talent. With an undercover employee in the business, hitting a home run for the client can be pretty limited: it can take many weeks, cost thousands of dollars, and not uncover a single person stealing time, money, or product.

Case Study: Interrogation

Newport Beach Corporate Fraud

A prominent Newport Beach attorney representing a large beer manufacturer contacted us. We met with the attorney and the company executives at their corporate headquarters.

The company had a problem: large amounts of inventory were missing. They had a certain amount of product on hand, but their internal accounting told them they should have more money.

Results:

Our private investigators provided employee surveillance and in-depth interviews and interrogations of employees later.

We quickly discovered several employees were smuggling products out of the factory. The results from this investigation were handed to the District Attorney. As a result of our investigation, 17 people were arrested, prosecuted, and served jail time.
